About the Collet Nuts
Collet chuck nuts are threaded fasteners that secure collets to collet chucks. They seat into a groove at the top of the collet and thread onto the mouth of the collet chuck. These nuts are used as replacements for missing or stripped collet nuts.
The collet nut is a component of the collet system commonly used on CNC machines for high-precision drilling, milling and grinding applications. The collet nut consists of a nut and threaded body shaft， that secures the collet system around the tool holder, thereby securely clamping the tool. It is important to assemble the collet and collet nut correctly to ensure proper operation and prevent damage to the collet or tool. If necessary, the collet nut can be replaced to improve the performance of the collet chuck.

Working with ER Nuts and Collets
One of the hallmarks of the ER nut, collet and wrench system is ease of use. The architecture is reliable, durable, and delivers excellent performance (low TIR, good balance, excellent tool retention, etc.) at an affordable price. That being said, the tutorial below will undoubtedly take a very simple process and render it.
1.If you look down at the barrel (threaded part) of the nut, you'll notice an eccentric ring at the top of the threads. This is called an "extraction loop" and the reasons for this will soon become apparent. (figure 1)
2.Insert the collet so that the annular groove spans the extraction ring and the tapered top edge of the collet fits correctly into the tapered cavity of the nut. This is easily accomplished by tilting the collet into the nut and pushing it through the extraction ring until the entire top of the collet is above the ring. (figure 2)
3.Now, push the bottom of the collet until the collet is all the way into and aligned with the nut. You will hear and feel a distinct click when the collet moves into the correct position, indicating that the top of the collet is securely seated above the extraction ring. (image 3)
4.Now the nut/collet assembly can be threaded onto the spindle, loaded with one of those great precision drill bits, and ready to go. (Figure 4)
The purpose of extracting the ring is twofold. First, it serves to secure the collets in the nuts so that they can be removed and handled as a unit without fear of them falling apart. Second, when the nut is loosened, the ring runs around the groove in the collet and lifts it out of the spindle hole (sort of like running your fingers around the lid of a plastic container to lift it off). With this system, the collet cannot remain stuck in the spindle when the nut is removed. The best automatic chuck extraction.
How to Remove the collet from the nut
1. Remove the nut/collet from the spindle and remove all drill bits from the collet holes.
2. Grasp the nut with one hand and tilt the chuck to the maximum extent with the other hand.
3. While maintaining pressure on the collet, turn the nut until you hear/feel a click.
4. A "click" sound indicates that the top edge of the collet groove has completely separated from the extraction ring and the collet can be removed from the nut.
Note: When using a new nut or collet, you may also need to press the top of the collet with your thumb to achieve separation while twisting the nut.
